Educational Estimates Only
The City vs City Firefighter Comparator ("the Tool") is an educational utility designed to help firefighters, paramedics, and lateral transfer candidates understand how municipal compensation, FLSA overtime, pension structures, and cost-of-living differences interact. Every figure produced by the Tool — including base pay, overtime calculations, tax withholdings, pension projections, and purchasing power comparisons — is an estimate generated from generalized formulas and publicly available reference data. None of the outputs represent an official offer of employment, a guarantee of future earnings, or a binding statement from any fire department, municipality, or pension system.
Actual compensation depends on factors the Tool cannot fully account for, including but not limited to: individual collective bargaining agreement (CBA) terms, step and longevity placement, shift bid outcomes, certification effective dates, local tax ordinances, pension system-specific rules, and legislative changes that may occur after the Tool's data was last updated.
Not Legal, Financial, or Tax Advice
The Tool does not provide legal, financial, investment, or tax advice. Pension calculations, tax withholding estimates, and retirement projections are simplified models intended for educational comparison only. You should not make employment, relocation, retirement, or financial decisions based solely on the Tool's output. Consult a qualified financial advisor, tax professional, pension administrator, or labor attorney before acting on any information presented here.
Tax calculations use generalized single-filer federal brackets and simplified state income tax estimates. They do not account for joint filing status, dependents, deductions, local taxes, or alternative minimum tax. Real take-home pay will differ.
Data Accuracy & Currency
Compensation data is compiled from publicly available municipal pay scales, CBAs, and pension system documentation. Data may be outdated, incomplete, or incorrectly transcribed. Pension multipliers, contribution rates, and COLA provisions are particularly subject to legislative change. The Tool's operators make no warranty as to the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any data point. Users are strongly encouraged to verify all figures against official department and pension system sources.
No Affiliation
The Tool is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any municipal fire department, state pension system, government agency, or labor union. All department names and city references are used for identification purposes only.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operators of the Tool disclaim all liability for any damages — direct, indirect, consequential, or otherwise — arising from the use of or reliance on the Tool's output. The Tool is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. Users assume full responsibility for verifying all information before making decisions based on it.
